Follow these steps to resolve the "Can't open file" / "Make sure OneDrive-Personal is running" message:
- Confirm that OneDrive is actually running
- On Windows, look at the right side of the taskbar (notification area) for a white or blue OneDrive cloud icon.
- If it is hidden, select the Show hidden icons arrow and look for the OneDrive icon there.
- Start OneDrive manually
- Select Start.
- Type OneDrive in the search box.
- Select the OneDrive desktop app from the results.
- After it starts, wait for it to sign in and show that it is syncing or Up to date, then try opening the document again.
- Make sure OneDrive is up to date
- If OneDrive still does not appear or open correctly, download and install the latest OneDrive app from the official source as recommended in the documentation.
If the error persists after confirming OneDrive is running and updated, sign out and back in to OneDrive from the desktop app, then retry opening the files.
