Device Manager shows a constant Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed) loop

Hi all, my PC is making the Windows "device connected" followed by "device disconnected" sound effects every 10 seconds on a loop. I opened Device Manager and watched it refresh constantly, showing a yellow triangle that says "Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)." I have absolutely nothing plugged into my USB ports except my mouse and keyboard.

This usually happens when Windows keeps trying to reset a USB connection that is failing repeatedly.

A good first step is to unplug all USB devices except keyboard and mouse, then check if the loop stops. If it does, one of your external devices is causing the issue.

If not, try changing USB ports (especially use rear motherboard ports instead of front panel ones), because a damaged port or loose connection can trigger this.

You can also go into Device Manager, find “Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)”, uninstall it, then restart your PC so Windows reinstalls it automatically.

If it still continues, updating your chipset/USB drivers or disabling USB selective suspend in power settings often helps.

If none of that works, it could be a faulty USB port or motherboard USB controller.

To fix this, you should right click the Start menu, open Device Manager, expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section, right click on the specific hub showing the error and select Uninstall device before restarting your computer to force Windows to cleanly reinstall the driver.
