Hey builders, I have an Nvidia RTX 4070 running on a clean installation of Windows. I want to enable DLSS Frame Generation in my games, which requires Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling to be turned on in Windows graphics preferences. However, the option toggle is completely grayed out and says "This feature is not supported by your hardware." What gives?

    Hello Ahmad Ibrahim,

The Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) option being grayed out on your RTX 4070 usually points to a driver or OS compatibility issue rather than a hardware limitation. Even though your card supports it, the toggle depends on both the Windows build and the graphics driver version.

First, make sure you are running the latest NVIDIA drivers from the official GeForce website, not just the ones delivered through Windows Update. Next, confirm that your Windows installation is fully updated, HAGS requires Windows 10 version 2004 or later, or any current build of Windows 11. If you are on a clean install, double-check that optional features and updates are applied. In some cases, enabling HAGS also requires that your display is connected to the GPU directly (not through remote desktop or virtualization).

If the toggle still appears grayed out, it may be due to registry or policy settings. A quick way to verify is to check the registry key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers for the value HwSchMode. Setting it to 2 enables HAGS, but this should only be done if the driver and OS support it. Otherwise, the system will revert to unsupported.

I hope the response provided some helpful insight. If you find this answer useful, please hit “accept answer” so I know it addressed your concern.

    Jason.
