I am trying to change my BitLocker Key. I follow the steps, but every time I try and click on the BitLocker Encryption Link to take me to change it, it goes to the Microsoft Store and wants me to pay to update to Windows 10/11 Pro. I have Windows 11 and don't want or need pro. I have no desire to pay several hundred $ just to change my BitLocker Key. Please help.

    Hi,

If clicking BitLocker takes you to the Microsoft Store to upgrade to Pro, your device is likely running Windows Home. Full BitLocker management is only available in Windows Pro, Enterprise, or Education.

On Windows Home, you may only have Device encryption. You can check it under Settings > Privacy & security > Device encryption.

To fully change or manage BitLocker keys, Windows Pro is required.

BitLocker Drive Encryption is only available on Windows Pro, Enterprise, or Education editions. On Windows 11 Home, the BitLocker management UI (“Manage BitLocker” / BitLocker Drive Encryption link in Control Panel) is not present; selecting BitLocker options will redirect to the Microsoft Store to offer an upgrade to Windows 11 Pro.

    On Windows 11 Home:

    • BitLocker keys and settings cannot be managed because BitLocker Drive Encryption is not included.
    • Some devices may have “Device Encryption,” which is a simplified, automatic encryption feature, but its keys and options are not managed through the BitLocker Drive Encryption Control Panel.

Because of this, changing a BitLocker key in the way described is not possible without upgrading to an edition that includes BitLocker Drive Encryption (such as Windows 11 Pro). There is no supported way to enable or manage BitLocker Drive Encryption features on Windows 11 Home without that upgrade.

For devices that do have BitLocker (Pro/Enterprise/Education), keys and protection are managed via the BitLocker Drive Encryption Control Panel or related tools, as described in the references below.
