Somehow my "Windows 11 Pro" PC was updated to "Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview" It was in my updates and just started downloading. How do I get my PC back to 25H2? Will it automatically go back on the next update of windows?

Thanks

Going back to starbe 25H2 depend on which build you have installed now?
Push Win -key and type command winver to see current build number.

Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview is a pre-release build. To return to a stable Windows 11 Pro 25H2 build, use one of these approaches depending on the build and how it was installed.

    1. Opt out of Insider builds going forward If the device is already on a production (stable) build in the future, it can be opted out so it stops receiving preview builds:
    2. Open Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program.
    3. Select Stop getting preview builds and follow the instructions.

This keeps data and stops future Insider updates, but does not itself downgrade the current Insider build.

    1. Go back to the previous version (time‑limited) If the Insider build was installed as an upgrade very recently (typically within 10 days) and the Go back option is still available:
    2. Open Settings > System > Recovery.
    3. If shown, select Go back.
      • This keeps personal files but removes apps/drivers installed after the upgrade and undoes settings changes.

This returns the device to the previous Windows version/build (for example, a stable 25H2 build) as long as the rollback window is still valid and required folders (like windows.old) are intact.

    1. In‑place install of stable Windows 11 25H2 over Insider (non‑Canary 26xxx builds) If running a 26xxx Insider build (not Canary 27xxx) and the rollback window is over, a stable 25H2 build can be installed in place:
    2. Remove Insider configuration so the device stops being treated as a preview device:
      • Open regedit and delete the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost
      • Restart the PC.
    3. Download a Windows 11 25H2 ISO that matches the system language from the official Windows 11 download page.
    4. Mount the ISO (double‑click it in File Explorer) and run setup.exe.
    5. In Setup, choose to keep personal files and apps when prompted.

This performs an in‑place repair/upgrade to the stable 25H2 release while preserving data and installed applications.

    1. Clean install (required for Canary 27xxx builds) If the device is on a Canary channel build 27xxx, the only supported way back to stable is a clean install:
    2. Back up all important files to external storage.
    3. From the Windows 11 download page, use the Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB installer.
    4. Boot from the USB, delete all partitions, and install Windows 11 Pro (25H2 or later stable build).
    5. After installation, sign in and restore data from backup.
    6. Will it automatically go back on the next update? Insider Preview builds do not automatically revert to stable builds. They continue to receive preview updates until the device is moved off Insider builds and a stable build is installed (via rollback, in‑place install, or clean install as above).
