A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
To set up passkeys in Microsoft Authenticator on an iPhone for a work or school account, use the preferred flow directly in the Authenticator app.
- Install Microsoft Authenticator from the App Store and open it.
- If Authenticator is newly installed:
- On the Secure Your Digital Life screen, tap Add work or school account.
- Otherwise, tap Add account or the + button and choose Work or school account, then Sign in.
- If the account is already added, tap the account and then tap Create a passkey.
- Complete multifactor authentication (MFA) when prompted.
- If prompted, tap Settings to set up a screen lock (Face ID/Touch ID or device PIN) and configure it.
- Tap Settings again to enable Authenticator as a passkey provider:
- On iOS 18: go to Settings > General > Autofill & Passwords.
- On iOS 17: go to Settings > Passwords > Password Options.
- Turn on AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys and under Autofill From, select Authenticator.
- Return to Authenticator and tap Done to confirm Authenticator is set as a passkey provider.
- The account now shows Passkey as a sign-in method; tap Done again to finish.
After this, Authenticator configures passkey, passwordless, and MFA sign-in according to the organization’s policies, and the passkey can be used for sign-in to supported Microsoft resources on iOS.
