Hi, Touchpad not working, not showing in device drivers, tried the following: How to Fix the Surface Laptop HID Touchpad or TouchscreenOpen Device Manager: Right-click the Start menu or use the Windows search bar and select Device Manager.Locate HID Devices: Click the arrow to expand the Human Interface Devices category.Uninstall the Driver:For trackpad issues: Look for Surface HID Mini Driver or HID-compliant touch pad.For touchscreen issues: Look for HID-compliant touch screen or Intel Precise Touch Device.Right-click the device and select Uninstall device. (If a checkbox appears asking to "Delete the driver software," leave it unchecked and click Uninstall).Scan for Hardware: Click Action in the top menu bar, then select Scan for hardware changes. Windows will automatically reinstall the missing driver.Restart Your PC: Reboot the laptop to finalize the driver refresh.Troubleshooting StepsIf you find that your touchpad or keyboard isn't functioning at all and you are unable to navigate with the trackpad, you will need to plug in an external USB or Bluetooth mouse to follow the steps above. If the problem persists, you can download and install the official driver and firmware package specific to your Surface generation via the Microsoft Surface Driver and Firmware Downloads page to ensure everything is completely up to date.If you'd like, let me know:Which Surface Laptop model you are using (e.g., Surface Laptop 4, 5, or 7)Whether your keyboard and mouse cursor are affected tooI can provide more specific troubleshooting or hardware solutions if needed.

And still no joy. Any suggestions? Thank you

    Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit

Make sure you have latest Windows Update.

Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager. Expand the Mice and other pointing devices or Human Interface Devices categories. Look for your touchpad, right-click it, and select Uninstall device. Restart your Surface. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot.

    You may also manually download:

Download and install Drivers and Firmware specific for your model

Because the touchpad is not working and not appearing in Device Manager even after driver refresh, the next steps are:

    1. Update or reinstall touchpad/Surface drivers
      • Use Windows Update first to install all pending updates, including drivers and firmware.
      • If that does not restore the touchpad, manually install the latest driver and firmware package for the specific Surface Laptop model:
        1. Go to the Surface driver download page.
        2. Select the exact Surface Laptop model.
        3. Download the .msi that matches the installed Windows build.
        4. Run the .msi and complete installation, then restart.
      • This ensures the latest Surface Integration, Touch, and UEFI components are installed, which can restore a missing touchpad device.
    2. Reinstall HID/mouse devices via Device Manager
      • Open Device Manager.
      • On the View menu, select Show hidden devices.
      • Expand Human Interface Devices and Mice and other pointing devices.
      • Right‑click any greyed‑out or problematic HID/touchpad‑related entries and select Uninstall device. If offered, optionally select Delete the driver software for this device only if sure it is not needed by other hardware.
      • On the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes.
      • Restart the device.
    3. Run Surface diagnostics / touchpad validation (if hardware was serviced)
      • If the device has had a trackpad repair or C‑cover replacement, download the latest Surface Diagnostic Tool (SDT) and run the post‑installation touchpad repair/validation workflow to confirm the hardware is detected and functioning.
    4. Check for known firmware fixes (Surface Laptop 7th Edition)
      • If using Surface Laptop (7th Edition), install the latest firmware updates. Recent updates include a fix for an issue where the touchpad stops working and requires a restart after resuming from sleep. Ensuring these updates are installed can resolve intermittent or recurring touchpad failures.
    5. If the touchpad still does not appear in Device Manager
      • When the touchpad does not show up at all under Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices after driver/firmware updates and hardware scans, this typically indicates a hardware or internal connection issue (for example, trackpad FPC cables or subassembly).
      • At that point, use one of the following support options:
        • For consumer devices: start a service order to send the Surface to Microsoft for inspection/repair.
        • For business‑owned devices: follow Surface service options for Business and Education or contact Surface Support for Business.
      • If technically experienced and equipped, self‑repair is possible on supported models by replacing the trackpad subassembly and reconnecting the FPC cables according to the official service guide, then validating with SDT. Otherwise, professional service is recommended.

If after driver/firmware updates and hardware scans the touchpad is still missing from Device Manager, arranging service is the appropriate next step.
