Once you create a new password, just use it to sign in on your new laptop. Everything should work smoothly.

To use Outlook on the new laptop, the email account password must be reset with the email provider first, then updated in Outlook.

1. Reset the email account password
   • If the email address is a Microsoft account (for example Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live):
     • Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page, select Forgotten your password?, and follow the steps in Reset a forgotten Microsoft account password.
   • If it is a work or school Microsoft 365 account, follow Reset your work or school password using security info.
   • If it is another provider (Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, Xfinity, etc.), reset the password on that provider’s website, then note the new password.
2. Add or update the account in new Outlook for Windows
   • Open new Outlook for Windows.
   • Add the email account if it is not already added (see Add an email account to Outlook for Windows).
   • When prompted to sign in, enter the newly reset password.
   • If the account is already in Outlook and is failing to send/receive after the reset, select the icon next to the email account name, choose Continue, and sign in again with the new password as described in I can't send or receive messages in Outlook.
