Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To change from Microsoft 365 Family to Microsoft 365 Personal (Individual), use one of these supported methods, depending on whether you want fewer features or are just changing plan at renewal.
Option 1 – Switch to a subscription with fewer features (Family → Personal)
This is treated as moving to a plan with fewer features, so the existing subscription must be cancelled first and then the new one purchased:
- Go to the Subscriptions page and sign in with the Microsoft account used for the Family subscription: https://account.microsoft.com/services
- Find the current Microsoft 365 Family subscription and select Manage.
- Select Cancel subscription.
- On the Cancel page, review the information, then choose the option to cancel. The Family subscription will remain usable until it expires.
- After (or close to when) the Family subscription expires, purchase Microsoft 365 Personal using the same Microsoft account.
This path is explicitly required when switching to a subscription with fewer features.
Option 2 – Change recurrence only (if just changing billing cycle)
If only the billing frequency (monthly vs yearly) needs to change and not the plan type, use Switch plan under recurring billing instead. This does not change Family to Personal, but is available on the same page:
- Sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/services.
- Select Manage for the subscription.
- Choose Switch plan to change between annual or monthly payments.
For any issues during purchase or cancellation, contact Microsoft support from the account portal.
