If you want Microsoft Office for business use, you will need Microsoft Office Home & Business 2024 (which is licensed for business use by a single user on a single PC or Mac) or a business subscription.

To begin the Windows configuration, connect the laptop to a power supply and turn it on to start the Windows Out-of-Box Experience. If your laptop has Windows 11 Pro, choose the option to set up the device for work or school so you can log in directly with your Microsoft 365 business email. If your laptop came with Windows 11 Home, this option will not likely appear, so log in with a standard Microsoft account first. Once you reach the main desktop screen, go to the settings menu and click on accounts to create a second, separate user profile if you plan to share this computer with family members. This step ensures your business documents stay completely hidden from other users on the device. Next, click on the network icon in the bottom right corner of the taskbar to connect to your private home Wi-Fi network rather than an unsecured guest network.

With the network connected, open the settings app again and navigate to the Windows Update section. Click the button to check for updates and let the computer download and install every single available software patch and driver update. Let the computer restart as many times as it needs to until the update page displays a green checkmark saying the device is fully up to date.

Next, open the built-in Microsoft Edge web browser and go to the official Microsoft 365 login portal using your business account credentials. Click the install apps button in the top right corner of your account dashboard to download the official office setup file. Open the downloaded file to begin the deployment of the desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The installer will run automatically in the background and place shortcuts on your computer. Once the installation finishes, open Microsoft Outlook and enter your business email address. The system will automatically pull your server configuration and sync your business inbox, calendar, and contacts right to your new desktop client.
