If you performed a factory reset on Windows 11, whether you can recover your passwords depends on where they were stored before the reset:
1. Browser Passwords (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)
If you were signed in and syncing:
- Chrome: Sign back into your Google account and check Password Manager.
- Edge: Sign back into your Microsoft account and enable sync.
- Firefox: Sign back into your Firefox account if Sync was enabled.
2. Microsoft Account Passwords
If you saved passwords in your Microsoft account:
- Open Settings → Accounts → Windows Backup.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account used before the reset.
- Check Microsoft Authenticator or the Microsoft password manager in Edge.
3. If You Had a Backup
If you created a system backup, File History backup, or exported passwords before resetting, restore from that backup.
4. If You Didn’t Use Sync or Backups
Unfortunately, a factory reset usually removes locally stored passwords and saved logins. Once the drive has been wiped and Windows reinstalled, recovering them is often impossible without a backup.
