Since I got the laptop a day ago, I haven't been able to use the touchpad. I plugged in a mouse, and it works, I have tried going to the settings and looked into the Bluetooth and device settings and they don't have it in there and I have tried looking in the mouse settings and it is not there either. To sum it up, my touchpad doesn't work and the settings for it aren't anywhere to be found. For more context I have a HP255R G10 and it is a window 11.

    Hi,

If the Q&A Assist options didn't work, please access the Device Manager, go to the Mouse tab, take a screenshot and post it here.

If you have any driver errors, take a screenshot and post it here in the Device Manager.

    Thanks

Follow these steps to troubleshoot a missing or non-working touchpad in Windows 11:

    1. Check hardware basics
    • If the touchpad is part of the built-in keyboard deck, make sure the laptop is not in a special mode (for example, some laptops disable the touchpad when a function key is pressed).
    • If there is a physical touchpad on/off key (often an F-key with a touchpad icon) or a small LED/button near the touchpad, toggle it once and test.
    1. Verify the touchpad is enabled in Settings (if it appears)
    • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
    • If Touchpad appears, make sure the main Touchpad switch is turned On and adjust settings as needed.
    • If Touchpad does not appear at all, continue with driver checks.
    1. Update touchpad drivers via Windows Update A missing or out-of-date driver can cause the touchpad to disappear from Settings.
    • In the search box on the taskbar, type check for updates, then select Check for updates.
    • Under Windows Update, select Check for updates.
    • Install any available updates, including optional driver updates if they appear.
    • Restart the PC and check Settings > Bluetooth & devices again for Touchpad.
    1. Check and update/reinstall the touchpad driver in Device Manager
    • In the search box on the taskbar, type device manager, then select Device Manager.
    • Look under these categories for a touchpad device:
      • Human Interface Devices
      • Mice and other pointing devices
    • When a touchpad device is found:
      • Double-click it, go to the Driver tab, and select Update Driver, then follow the instructions.
    • If the touchpad device appears but still does not work after updating, it can be uninstalled and reinstalled:
      • Right-click the touchpad device, select Uninstall device, confirm, then restart the PC so Windows can reinstall the driver.
    1. If the touchpad device does not appear at all
    • If no touchpad-related entry is listed under Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices, and Windows Update does not install a driver, this can indicate a hardware issue or a vendor-specific driver requirement.
    • In that case, install the latest touchpad/chipset drivers from the HP support site for the HP 255R G10, then repeat the Device Manager and Windows Update steps.

If, after all of the above, the touchpad still does not appear in Settings or Device Manager, the issue is likely hardware-related and requires HP hardware support or service.
