I can't get authenticator to backup up any longer. I have sent logs to Microsoft no response.

What I have done.

I made sure that the primary email is the correct email.

Cleared the cash

Checked VPN tunneling

Checked DSN for any blocking on Microsoft

Check all properties related to battery and connection

I even asked grok what the deal is. Went and checked groks trouble shooting.

I'm stumped

Perform these checks in order, focusing on backup-specific settings rather than network or cache (which are already checked):

    1. Confirm backup type and platform limits
    • Backup and restore must be on the same platform: iOS → iOS or Android → Android only. Accounts backed up on iOS cannot be restored on Android and vice versa.
    • Only one backup per Microsoft personal account is supported; if the wrong recovery account is used, backup can silently fail.
    1. Verify backup is enabled and signed-in account is valid
    • Open Microsoft Authenticator.
    • Go to Settings.
    • Under Backup:
      • On iOS: ensure iCloud backup is turned on and that the signed-in iCloud account is valid.
      • On Android: ensure Cloud Backup is turned on and that a Microsoft personal account is selected.
    • If you see a “Something went wrong” message when trying to enable backup, it indicates that no Microsoft account is signed in. In that case:
      • Turn on Cloud Backup (Android) or iCloud backup (iOS) and choose Continue or Change account to sign in with the intended Microsoft personal account.
    1. Recreate the backup (fix wrong or stale backup account) If backup is stuck or tied to the wrong account, delete and recreate it:
    • Open Authenticator → Settings.
    • Under Backup, turn off Cloud Backup / iCloud backup and confirm OK to delete the existing backup.
    • Turn the backup toggle back on.
    • When prompted, select Continue or Change account and sign in with the correct Microsoft personal account that should hold the backup.
    • Wait for the backup status to show as enabled/complete.
    1. Ensure app and OS are supported and up to date
    • Make sure Authenticator is on a supported version (no more than 12 months old). Use Settings → App updates and ensure updates are enabled.
    • Ensure the device OS and any security apps (Microsoft Defender, Intune Company Portal) are up to date.
    1. iOS-specific checks (if on iPhone/iPad) On the old device (where backup is created):
    • Enable iCloud Drive, iCloud Keychain, and iCloud Backup at the OS level.
    • In the Saved to iCloud list, ensure Authenticator is toggled on.
    • Ensure Authenticator is version 6.8.33 or later and open the app at least once after enabling backup.
    1. Android-specific checks (if on Android)
    • Confirm Cloud Backup is enabled in Authenticator Settings and that the selected Microsoft personal account is the intended recovery account.
    • If backup still fails, delete the backup (step 3) and recreate it.
    1. If backup still does not work
    • Use Send Feedback in Authenticator settings (already done) and keep the app updated; fixes for backup issues are often delivered via app updates.
    • For now, ensure at least one alternate sign-in method (phone/SMS or another email) is configured on the Microsoft account so that access is not lost if the device fails.
