I had Windows 11 Home preinstalled on this device and it was replaced by school OS. Now activation fails after resetting this device. It is still set up at Windows 11 Pro Education. Please activate the original OS

A Windows reset will not resolve this problem, the only working method to go from the Pro Education edition of Windows 11 back to the original version of Windows that was pre-installed on your laptop is to backup your files, create a bootable Windows 11 USB on an empty 8GB USB flash drive, then boot your laptop from the USB to wipe the drive and clean install Windows, the pre-installed Windows OEM licence should then activate automatically.

    Click this link:  https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool.

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created to begin installing Windows 11.

During the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option 'I am Reinstalling Windows 11 on this PC'.

Windows 11 Pro Education must be activated with a valid Pro EDU license; it cannot be activated with the original Windows 11 Home license that came preinstalled on the device. The original Home digital license is tied to the edition and hardware, so it will not activate a different edition such as Pro Education.

To return to the original, activated OS, the device must be reinstalled with Windows 11 Home (the edition it originally shipped with). Once Windows 11 Home is reinstalled on the same hardware, activation should occur automatically using the embedded/digital license, provided the hardware has not changed in a way that breaks the license association. If activation still fails after reinstalling Home, use the Activation troubleshooter:

    1. Select Start > Settings > System > Activation.
    2. If Windows isn’t activated, select Troubleshoot and follow the on-screen steps.

If the device must remain on Windows 11 Pro Education (for example, because it is managed by a school), a valid Pro EDU license from the school or organization is required; in that case, contact the school’s IT or support staff to ensure the correct license and activation method are applied.

If none of these steps resolve the issue or the error code is not listed, contact customer support using the guidance in the activation error documentation.
