How to ensure that a Windows VM restarts after Windows Update?

I use a Windows VM that I've set up via the Azure portal as a heavy forwarder that uses Splunk. I access the VM via RDP. However, whenever a Windows update occurs, the system apparently shuts down and either doesn't restart the necessary services to run Splunk or RDP into the system, or doesn't restart at all. System event logs don't appear to be particularly useful. The VM needs to be restarted from the Azure portal, and then it works as normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, sorry for the late response.

The updates are applied automatically when Windows decides that an update has been available long enough and requires it.
