Your screenshot seems to indicate that is Adobe software like Photoshop producing that error, is that correct?

If so, it is best to remove the scratch disk from the C drive and use another drive on your PC that has plenty of space for the Adobe Scratch Disk.

    Open Photoshop.

Go to Edit - Preferences - Scratch Disks.

In there, you can disable the Scratch Disk on the C drive and set it up on the D drive.

For the space on the C drive problem.

Download the free TreeSize app from the Microsoft Store.

Very Important - to run TreeSize, you must right click its icon and choose Run as Administrator.

Please provide a screenshot of your C drive in that TreeSize utility, so I can see your hard drive and work out where that space is being used and if there is an underlying problem.

Please ensure the full TreeSize window is in the screenshot, there is information on the top and bottom bars I needs to see.

Use the built‑in tools in Windows to free space on drive C without formatting.

    1. Run Disk Cleanup
      1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Disk Cleanup and select it.
      2. Select C: and choose OK.
      3. Select the check boxes for the file types you want to delete (for example Temporary Internet Files, Temporary files, Recycle Bin).
      4. Select Clean up system files, choose C: again, then select additional system items you don’t need (such as old Windows Update files) and select OK > Delete files.
    2. Remove or move personal files from C:
      1. Open File Explorer and under This PC review folders such as Videos, Music, Pictures, and Downloads.
      2. Sort by size to find the largest files.
      3. Delete files you no longer need, or move them to your D: or E: drives (or another external drive) so they no longer consume space on C:.
      4. Empty the Recycle Bin to complete the space recovery.
    3. Optional: Compress the OS drive (if using Windows 10/11 without Storage Sense)
      1. In File Explorer, right‑click Windows (C:) and select Properties.
      2. On the General tab, select Compress this drive to save disk space.
      3. Select Apply > OK.

These steps free space on C: without formatting and help applications that require a larger scratch disk.
