Use the password instead of the PIN first, then fix the PIN and verification issue.
- On the Windows 11 sign-in screen, under the PIN box, select Sign-in options.
- Choose the password icon and enter the account password to sign in.
- After signing in, open Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under PIN (Windows Hello) select I forgot my PIN and follow the steps to set a new PIN.
If the problem is that verification codes are not arriving on the phone:
- Make sure not to request the code repeatedly; too many requests can cause a temporary block and codes will stop being sent.
- Check if the phone is blocking SMS from unknown numbers or if the SMS inbox is full; clear space and allow messages from unknown senders, then request the code again.
- If using a VOIP number, change the security info to a real mobile number.
- If still blocked or seeing messages like Try another verification method, use another verification method already on the account (alternate email, different phone, etc.) and avoid repeated attempts for at least 24 hours.
- If none of the verification methods work and codes still do not arrive, use the sign-in helper tool to diagnose the account sign-in issue and follow the guidance there.
If it is not possible to sign in with a password (forgotten password and PIN):
- On the sign-in screen, select I forgot my password and follow the steps to reset the Microsoft account password.
- After resetting the password and signing in, go back to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and configure a new PIN.
If this is a local (non-Microsoft) account and the password is forgotten, use the Reset password link on the sign-in screen and answer the security questions to create a new password, then sign in and reset the PIN from Settings.
