Is there a program included with Windows 11 to backup the System files?
Also, are there 3rd party backup programs that other folks using this discussion site use?

Thanks for your help,
PR

The type of backup you are referring to is called an image.

An image is an exact copy of your hard drive, compressed into a single, large file. When you restore an image, your computer goes back in time to the moment the image was made. This is by far the best way to backup your computer. It takes just minutes to make an image and minutes to restore one, and there is nothing to reset, recover, reinstall or setup. My images are made every night, automatically, while I'm sleeping.

Windows does not have a supported utility for making images. That means you'll need a third party system image app to get the job done. Fortunately, there are many of these from which to choose. They are the home user versions of the same backup software used by large companies.

This software has a learning curve, I must say, if you really want to understand what it does. But it's so worth the effort. Once you've seen what this software can do, you will never live in fear of losing your data and you'll never need to reinstall Windows again.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Yes, Windows 11 includes backup features.

Windows Backup can back up files, settings, Wi-Fi information, and some apps linked to your Microsoft account. Windows 11 also still includes the older "Backup and Restore (Windows 7)" feature, which can create a system image. "Back up and restore with Windows Backup" https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-and-restore-with-windows-backup-87a81f8a-78fa-456e-b521-ac0560e32338

Before recommending anything else, what is the make and model of your PC? Some manufacturers provide their own backup and recovery tools. For example, ASUS includes recovery and backup options on many of its devices.

Yes. Windows 11 includes built-in tools to back up both system files and personal data.

    1. Windows Backup (cloud-focused)
Windows 11 has a built-in Windows Backup app. It is a “one-stop backup solution” that can back up:
      • Files (for example, Desktop and Documents via OneDrive folder syncing)
      • Themes and many Windows settings
      • Many installed apps and Wi‑Fi information
This backup is tied to a Microsoft account and is primarily designed for consumer devices using a personal Microsoft account (such as *@outlook.com or *@live.com). It helps when moving to a new PC or recovering after issues by restoring files, settings, and apps after signing in with the same Microsoft account.
    2. Recovery Drive (system files / bare-metal recovery)
Windows 11 also includes the Recovery Drive utility. This tool:
      • Creates a USB recovery drive containing essential system files, Windows files, installed updates at the time of creation, and OEM customizations.
      • Lets the PC be restored to factory or original state, even after replacing or wiping the drive (bare-metal recovery).
      • Does not include personal files; those must be backed up separately (for example, with Windows Backup or other file-backup methods).
      • Is recommended to be recreated periodically so it includes the latest updates.

Together, Windows Backup (for files, settings, and apps) and Recovery Drive (for system files and full system recovery) provide the built-in backup and recovery options in Windows 11.

The context provided does not list specific third‑party backup programs, so none can be recommended here.
