How and where do I update the BIOS? I can't figure it out for the life of me! & How should I reduce battery consumption? My computer's draining like 1 percent a minute! I don't know what to do. (Windows 11)

    1

Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

    Expand the Batteries section

For each device in that section:

    Right click and choose Disable

Wait a second or two, then right click and choose Enable

    Close Device Manager

Restart (not shut down) your laptop to apply the change and check the battery usage.

    2

What are you doing on your laptop when the battery is draining so fast, are you gaming on the laptop or performing GPU or CPU intensive tasks.

    3

I need to check your BIOS version, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

BIOS updates are specific to each PC or motherboard model and are not done from inside Windows 11 settings. The exact steps and download location are not in the provided material, so only general Windows-side guidance and battery‑saving steps can be given.

    For BIOS updates:

    • Use the PC or motherboard manufacturer’s support site (for example, HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, etc.).
    • Search by exact model number and look for a “BIOS” or “Firmware” section.
    • Follow the vendor’s instructions exactly; many provide a Windows-based updater or a USB/UEFI-based method.
    • Do not attempt a BIOS update while on battery only; keep the device plugged in and do not power it off during the update, as interruption can make the device unbootable.

For reducing battery consumption in Windows 11, use the built-in power and energy features:

    1. Turn on Energy saver
    • Select Start > Settings > System > Power & battery.
    • Under Energy saver, either:
      • Turn on Always use energy saver, or
      • Set Turn energy saver on when battery level is at to a higher percentage so it activates earlier.
    • You can also toggle Energy saver from the battery icon in the notification area.
    1. Apply Energy recommendations
    • Select Start > Settings > System > Power & battery > Energy recommendations.
    • Select Apply all, or review and apply individual items such as:
      • Set the power mode for best energy efficiency.
      • Set the screen brightness for best energy efficiency.
      • Put my device to sleep after 3 (or 10) minutes. These settings reduce screen-on time and background power use, which directly slows battery drain.
    1. Use power-efficient defaults
    • Power-efficient settings in Windows 11 automatically turn off the screen and put the device to sleep when idle, which helps extend battery life and reduce energy use.

If battery drain remains extremely high (around 1% per minute even when idle) after enabling Energy saver and Energy recommendations, that typically indicates heavy background activity or a hardware/battery health issue; in that case, checking battery health with the device manufacturer’s tools or support is recommended.
