If you are not automatically offered the 24H2 or 25H2 feature updates in the Windows udpates section of the Settings app, the most successful method to install version 24H2 is to use the Windows 11 ISO.

Please ensure you download the ISO in the same language as you use for the Windows UI, follow the steps, this is then not like re-installing Windows, it is just like an update and your personal files, settings and installed software will not be affected.

    Click this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11

to download the Windows 11 ISO

When the ISO file completes downloading

    Disconnect from the Internet

Disconnect all external devices with the exception of a mouse or keyboard.

Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed

Then, in Windows File Explorer, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe and select the Install option.

Very Important - ensure you select the option to keep your files and apps.

If Windows 11 is not offering version 24H2 or 25H2, use these steps in order.

    1. In Windows, go to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates. Install everything offered and restart until there are no more updates.
    2. If the device is at end of servicing and still does not show 24H2, perform an in-place upgrade using an ISO:
      • Go to the Windows 11 download page and get the latest Windows 11 (multi-edition ISO for x64 devices).
      • After download, double‑click the ISO to mount it and run Setup.exe.
      • When the Windows 11 setup screen appears, choose Change how Setup downloads updates and select Not right now.
      • Accept the license terms.
      • On Ready to install, select Change what to keep and choose Keep personal files and apps so data and apps are preserved.
      • Start the installation and let it complete; the PC will restart several times.
      • After the upgrade finishes, go back to Settings > Windows Update and install all remaining updates. This should move the device to the latest feature version (24H2 or 25H2, depending on what the ISO contains and device eligibility).
    3. If Windows Update still fails or no newer version is offered after the in‑place upgrade, back up all data and consider a clean recovery using a vendor or Surface recovery image (if it is a Surface device), then update again via Settings > Windows Update.

For devices already on 24H2 that need 25H2 specifically via enablement package, ensure:

    • The device is running Windows 11, version 24H2.
    • The August 29, 2025 cumulative update KB5064081 (OS Build 26100.5074) Preview or later is installed.
    • Then install the KB5054156 enablement package for 25H2 (see the KB5054156 article in the references for details).

If no updates appear even after these steps, contact Microsoft Support for further investigation.
