Cannot renew Microsoft Certification

Good day,

I have attempted today the 20 June to take the renewal assessment exam to renew my Azure Data Scientist Associate certification.

I followed the renewal ink in the reminder email stating that "Your Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate certification is now eligible for renewal. You have until June 21, 2026 (UTC) to pass the renewal assessment."

However, to my dismay after following the link, I learnt that the Certification retired on June 1, 2026 and that renewal is no longer available!

I am disappointed and upset that after receiving reminders from Microsoft about my certificate eligible for renewal until 21 June, not ONCE did I receive any notification email telling me about the retiring certifications and that the Azure Data Scientist Associate certification will retire on the June 1, 2026.

I will appreciate if you can investigate this matter as I put much time in preparing for the exam.

Yours Sincerely

Quentin Loo

As the certification has now been retired there is no method available to renew your certification.

Changes to certifications are announced on the Skills Hub blog https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/category/skills-hub/blog/skills-hub-blog

The retirement of the Azure Data Scientist certification announcement was contained along with many other retirements on the post https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/skills-hub-blog/the-ai-job-boom-is-here-are-you-ready-to-showcase-your-skills/4494128

The Azure Data Scientist Associate certification and its exam DP-100 retired on June 1, 2026. Once a certification is retired, the associated renewal assessment is no longer available, even if the original certification expiration date is later.

When a certification retires before an individual’s certification expiration date, renewal must be completed before the retirement date. After retirement:

    • The certification can no longer be renewed.
    • The renewal window cannot be extended or reopened; there are no exceptions.
    • If the certification later expires, it moves from Active to Historical on the transcript.

For retired certifications, the only way to hold an active, current credential is to earn a new, available certification by passing the required exam(s) or Applied Skills that replace or supersede the retired one.

For an account-specific investigation (for example, to review reminder emails or dates tied to a specific profile), direct assistance must be requested through Microsoft Credentials support, as only they can access and review individual certification records.
