SERVER 2019 - Files Inheritance Issue.

Hi Everyone,

We have a strange issue going on SERVER 2019, a couple of files are inheriting the permissions from the parent folder. I have tried all the options, upon googiling, there are a couple of threads mentioning few users have the same issue.

I have tried all the options such as re-creating the folder and giving complete access to the user. It works for a day or two and then, few files will not inherit permissions from a parent folder.

Can someone please help me out with this?

    Hi @Sajan Velamati

I'm not sure if you are expecting inheritance to be set or not, can you provide a bit more details on what you expect the behaviour to be and what you are experiencing, and some examples of the permissions that you are trying to set.

    Hi Gary,

    Thanks for the reply.

The client has a folder for example call it DATA with multiple sub folders in it call for example ( SUB FOLDER A, SUB FOLDER B & SUB FOLDER C).

Now, coming to the end user side.

USER A -> is having full drive access DATA drive
USER B -> is only having access to SUB Folder C drive.

Now, when user A move files from SUB Folder A to SUB FOLDER C few of the files are not inheriting the permissions set to USER B who is having access to SUB FOLDER C due to which the files are hidden to USER B until we reshare the folder or add USER B to the files manually so that USER B can view and access the files.

    Hi,

Have a look at this article, it might explain your issue. Depending if a move or copy operation is used, it can impact how the permissions are set on the destination files.
