In some of my Excel spreadsheets, the Copilot icon appears in the lower right-hand corner, while in others it doesn't appear at all. How can I get Copilot to show up in all spreadsheets?

This windows 365 Office

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Good day Bill and I appreciate the clear explanation of your concern.

Currently, Excel allows you to customize the placement of the Copilot icon by moving it into or out of the Ribbon based on your preference. Please note that Copilot in the Excel desktop application is only available to users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot Business add-on license.

Please see the following steps that will help you verify the issue:

Step 1: Verify that your account has a Microsoft 365 Copilot Business license

Note: If you are already certain that your account is licensed for Microsoft 365 Copilot Business, you can skip this step.

Please go to office.com > Sign in your work account > App Launcher > More apps > Install apps > Microsoft 365 Apps > Subscriptions.

    User's image

Under the Subscriptions section, verify that a Microsoft 365 Copilot Business license is listed.

If you don't see the Microsoft 365 Copilot Business license assigned to your account, please contact your organization's IT administrator for assistance.

In case you do not know who is your IT admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Step 2: Move the Copilot icon out of the Ribbon

Excel allows the Copilot entry point to be displayed either in the Ribbon or as a floating icon in the workbook window.

Open Excel desktop app > Go to the Home tab > Locate the Copilot button in the Ribbon.

Select the dropdown arrow on the Copilot icon.

    Choose Move out of Ribbon.

After doing this, check whether the Copilot icon appears in the lower-right corner of the workbook.

You can also right-click the Copilot icon and choose either:

    • Move to Ribbon to display it on the Ribbon.
    • Dock to keep it attached to the workbook window.
