I need detailed navigation steps to find the security task pertaining to notes.
Security for Notes window
We have users with limited security to most screens. I am trying to find the task that allows a user access to the Notes window. They get the usual message about insufficient security to access this window. All POWERUSERS can get to the Notes window.

I even printed out the entire task setup and then searched for Notes and nothing of any use pops up. Please provide detailed navigation instructions to the screen in Dynamics GP.

The Notes window in your application is gated by a specific security task assignment, not just general screen access. Since POWERUSER roles can open it, the task you’re looking for is tied to the Notes functionality itself, usually defined under the security task list in the application’s configuration. In Dynamics GP, for example, the Notes window is controlled by the task named “Notes” under the Administration series. If you are working in another ERP or line‑of‑business system, the principle is the same: the Notes window is not a screen but a shared component, and access is granted through a task that explicitly references “Notes” or “Record Notes.”
To diagnose this, open Security Task Setup, filter by the POWERUSER role, and locate the task that includes Notes. You’ll see entries pointing to the Notes window object. Once identified, assign that task to the limited‑security role you want to enable. Without this, users will continue to receive the insufficient security message because the Notes component is treated as a separate secured object, not inherited from the parent window.
If you cannot find a task named Notes directly, search by the technical name of the window object in the security setup. In GP, that’s usually
Form NotesorWindow Notes. Once you locate it, clone the task and attach it to the role. That will allow non‑POWERUSER accounts to access Notes without broadening their permissions unnecessarily.I hope you've found something useful here. If it helps you get more insight into the issue, it's appreciated to accept the answer. Should you have more questions, feel free to leave a message. Have a nice day!
