I had to reset my password. Now that the password was reset it won’t let my log into my Authenticator app to log into my computer. It is asking me to use the Authenticator app to log into the Authenticator app. Which clearly isn’t possible. How do I log into the app so I can log into my computer.

If Microsoft Authenticator is already set up on the phone, signing in to the app is usually not required to approve a sign-in. Try this first:

    1. On the computer sign-in screen, enter the account name and continue.
    2. If prompted, select Other ways to sign in and then Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app.
    3. On the phone, open Microsoft Authenticator directly, or tap the New sign-in request notification.
    4. If a number appears on the computer, enter or tap the matching number in Authenticator, then approve.
    5. If this is a work or school account, unlock the Authenticator app before confirming the sign-in.

If that still fails, check these common causes for Authentication did not complete:

    1. Make sure the Authenticator app is unlocked.
    2. Make sure notifications are enabled for Authenticator.
    3. Update to the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator.
    4. Make sure the phone has an internet connection. Switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data can help.
    5. Verify the phone’s date and time are correct.

If the app was removed, reinstalled, the phone was reset, or the account is no longer registered in Authenticator, self-service sign-in may not work. For a work or school account, the documented guidance is to contact the IT admin to resolve the issue.
