    Hello @Anna Lewis

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Support.

If you need to cancel** your Azure **subscription. Before canceling, Microsoft recommends backing up any data you want to keep and deleting or stopping any running resources.

Steps to cancel an Azure Subscription:

    1. Sign in to the Azure** **Portal: https://portal.azure.com
    2. Navigate to Cost** Management + Billing > Subscriptions (or Azure **Subscriptions).
    3. Select the subscription you want to cancel
    4. Click Cancel** **Subscription.
    5. Select a cancellation reason and complete the cancellation process.

    Important Before Cancelling:

    • Back up any important data from Azure Storage, SQL Databases, VMs, or other services
    • Stop or delete running resources to avoid unexpected charges before cancellation
    • If you have support plans associated with the subscription, cancel them separately if required.

    After Cancellation:

    • Azure closes the billing cycle and generates a final bill for any usage incurred before cancellation
    • The Delete** **Subscription option typically becomes available after the subscription has been canceled and required conditions are met.
    • Azure does not automatically delete your Microsoft account. If your goal is simply to stop charges, canceling the subscription and removing resources is usually sufficient.
    • If you receive an error while canceling, verify that your account has the Owner role on the subscription, as only subscription owners can cancel it.

if you need more details on this issue please refer Official Microsoft** **documentation:

To stop charges, cancel the Azure subscription in the Azure portal.

    1. Back up any data that must be kept.
    2. In the Azure portal, go to All resources and stop any running virtual machines, apps, or other services.
    3. Delete all resources and resource groups in the subscription.
    4. If deletion is blocked, check for hidden resources:
      • Go to Subscriptions > select the subscription > Resources
      • Select Manage view
      • Turn on Show hidden types
      • Delete any remaining hidden resources
    5. Cancel the subscription.

    Important details:

    • Billing stops immediately after cancellation.
    • It can take up to 10 minutes for the cancellation to appear in the portal.
    • The Delete subscription option becomes available 3 days after cancellation for customer-led subscriptions.
    • Azure never automatically deletes the Azure account. After canceling and deleting subscriptions, the account itself is not deleted automatically.
    • If the goal is only to avoid charges, removing all resources can also prevent unwanted charges.

If the account uses an organizational Microsoft Entra account, the Microsoft Entra administrator can delete the account. If it is not an organizational account, cancel and delete the subscriptions and remove the credit card from the account. That does not delete the account, but it renders it inoperable.

If the Cancel Subscription option is missing, the required permissions are not assigned. The Subscription Owner role is required to cancel a subscription.
