Hello,
I have a Windows 10, version 22H2, Build 19045.3803 laptop. When I turn my
laptop completely off, and then restart it, and go to Windows Update, I get a
message that says: You’re up to date. But when I click the Check for Updates
button, I get a error encountered message. This happens non-stop.
Is there a way to fix this?
Thank you.

Please reset the Windows Update cache using this batch file to see if that fixes the issue:

Hello John,
Thank you for your response.
I am not using a VPN, I am not sure about a proxy. I do use Malwarebytes antivirus,
but I have to manually turn it on for it to run.
My Chrome browser connects to websites normally.
Windows Update is showing a automatic trigger start.
BITS was not running, so I clicked to start.
Cryptographic services is running
Thank you for your help!
Hi, good day!
A few questions to help narrow it down:
Does the error appear every time you click Check for updates, or does it eventually work after a few attempts?
In the meantime, please check whether the required Windows Update services are running:
Press Windows + R to open Run, type services.msc, and press Enter.
Locate these services:
Windows Update
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
Cryptographic Services
Please make sure the following services are available and their status is set to Running. If any of them are stopped, right-click the service and select Start.
I look forward to receiving your update and I'm willing to collaborate with you till we resolve the issue. Do keep me informed by clicking "Add comment" below.
