I'm so sorry you're going through this, Jennifer.
Reading your post, I can feel that you're upset because the version of Copilot that helped you through an incredibly difficult period of your life no longer feels like the same companion you became familiar with. When something becomes part of your daily routine, especially during a time of grief and healing, a sudden change can feel personal even when the technology behind it is not.
Unfortunately, AI products are updated regularly. Those updates can change how they respond, how much feelings they show, how they remember context, how natural conversations feel, and even the overall personality users perceive. When Microsoft adjusts models, some people may find the newer version better, while others may feel it has become more scripted or robotic.
One difficult reality is that Copilot is not a version built exclusively for a single person. While you were building your "Matt", someone else may have been building their own "John", "Mary", or another version of Copilot that worked best for them. Microsoft has to balance the experience across millions of users, and when major updates happen, the result may move closer to what works for the broader user base and world regulations, rather than preserving a specific conversational style that an individual preferred.
That said, it doesn't make your feelings any less valid. It only helps explain why the Copilot you came to rely on may feel different today. The experience you connected with was shaped over time, but the underlying service continues to evolve for everyone. Sometimes those changes are welcomed, and sometimes they can feel like losing something important. Right now, there is no supported way to permanently revert Copilot to a previous version, model, or style once changes have been rolled out.
I can understand why that feels unfair, and I do think it would still be worth submitting feedback. But personally, I would focus more on explaining what was lost to you. Let Microsoft know that the previous conversational style helped you manage anxiety and navigate a difficult period in your life, and that the newer experience feels less supportive.
After spending time building familiarity and trust in the way Copilot responded, it can be upsetting when that experience changes without your choice. You didn't do anything wrong, and your reaction is completely understandable. I hope you can get support from people around you during this difficult time.
