I have a question regarding the prerequisite for the Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) certification.

Since Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204) has been replaced by Azure AI Cloud Developer Associate (AI-200), could you please confirm whether AI-200 can be taken instead of AZ-204 to satisfy the prerequisite for AZ-400?

I plan to start preparing for the prerequisite certification soon, so I want to ensure I'm following the correct certification path.

Thank you!

No. The documented prerequisite certifications for Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert are still:

    • Azure Administrator Associate
    • Azure Developer Associate

The certification page states that AZ-400 is the required exam, and the related guidance says the prerequisite must be either AZ-104 or AZ-204.

A Microsoft Q&A accepted answer also states that AI-200 will be added as a prerequisite for DevOps Engineer Expert once the exam becomes generally available. Based on that, AI-200 is not the current prerequisite to use instead of AZ-204 unless and until Microsoft updates the certification requirements.

If planning the prerequisite now, the supported path in the current certification guidance is:

    1. Earn Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204).
    2. Pass AZ-400: Designing and Implementing Microsoft DevOps Solutions.
