I tried renewing my subscription. It did not update. Now, it says my subscription is expired. Is there a human available to speak with by phone -- or a much easier way to communicate with Microsoft.

I’m sorry the renewal has not updated after you paid. First, sign in to your Services & subscriptions page using the same account used for the renewal and confirm whether the subscription appears as active.

If it is active, close all Office apps, reopen one, and sign in with that same account. If the subscription remains expired, contact Microsoft Support, select Get Help, then Contact Support to check the payment and available phone or chat options.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors, including external Microsoft employees, are not allowed to directly interfere with Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. unfortunately, I had no success with that suggestion

Quite frankly, there needs to be a human component to address these challenges.

This is incredibly frustrating to try to get this resolved. I have no choice than to ask the bank to cancel the payment.

Is this for a Microsoft 365 Personal/Family subscription or a Microsoft 365 Business subscription?
Are you experiencing a billing charge, renewal issue, refund request, payment method problem, or something else?
Do you have access to the Microsoft account associated with the subscription?
