After a sheet in excel was open for a few hours, but not worked on it suddenly stopped allowing data input into the cells. I deleted the sheet, but the new sheet is doing the same thing. I had copied/pasted the original information into the new sheet, but again it stops after that. It only allows information to be put into column one, but does not allow data in the other columns.

    Hi Teri,

Based on your sharing, this issue is quite unusual since copying the old content into a new sheet reproduces the issue, which means the problem may be stick with the data, table structure or even an add-in/session state.

For the best possible assistance, could you provide more detailed information about this situation? I appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

    • When you click a cell outside the first column and type, what exactly happens (nothing appears at all, the entry appears in the formula bar but not the cell or a warning/error message appears)? If there is an error message show up, please share me a screenshot or full wording of it.
    • Since the issue happens on the same sheet, have you tried creating a new blank workbook and check whether the issue happens in a new blank workbook too?
    • Did you paste normally with Ctrl + V, or use Paste Special > Values?
    • Is the file stored in OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, network drive or a local folder? Is anyone else co-authoring or editing the file at the same time?

Please understand that my initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Thank you once again for your understanding and cooperation. I look forward to hearing from you.
