The 0x0 error is widely reported with the Office apps on an Apple Mac at the moment, this is caused by the July 13 update

What version of Microsoft Office do you have, is that a subscription to Microsoft 365 or a standalone version of Office like Office 2019, 2021 or 2024.

At the top left of your Desktop, click the Apple icon and select 'About this Mac', what version of MacOS is installed on your computer?

Thanks for the response. I have tried some of your suggestions but will try the others now.

As for the error message - this is what I get: "UNKNOWN ERROR An unknown error has occurred. The error code is: 0x0." That's it.

    Hi Mary Ellen,

The 0xE0 error can occur for different reasons, so the exact fix depends on the full error code. If possible, could you share the complete error code (for example, 0xE000xxxx)?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

Make sure you're signed in to Office with the same Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 subscription.

Verify that your subscription is active by checking your Microsoft account under Services & Subscriptions.

Close all Office apps, restart your computer, and try activating again.

Go to File > Account in any Office app, sign out, then sign back in.

If the issue persists, run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA), which can automatically diagnose and fix many Office activation issues.

If none of these steps resolve the problem, please let us know:

    The full error code.

    Your Windows version.

    Whether this is a Microsoft 365 Personal/Family subscription or a work/school account.

With that information, the community can provide more specific guidance.
