can microsoft deactivate

Question

can microsoft deactivate a product key of a old computer as the old computer was sent in as a battery issue and has now been confirmed as dead. I didnt get the original product key of the computer as l didnt know about it at the time.

I have the original serial number of the computer also available?

Have pruchased a new laptop and want to transfer the product key it was home and student microsoft office

Hi,

Microsoft cannot remotely deactivate a one-time Office Home & Student license in the same way as a Microsoft 365 subscription.

Whether you can move it depends on how Office was purchased:

• If Office Home & Student was purchased separately and linked to your Microsoft account, it may be transferable to the new laptop. Office 2021 and Office 2024 can be transferred after a hardware failure.
• If Office came preinstalled with the old laptop, the license may be tied to that computer and may not transfer.
• The laptop serial number cannot be used as the Office product key.

Sign in to your Microsoft account "Services & subscriptions" page using the account originally used to activate Office. Check whether Office Home & Student appears there. If it does, select "Install" and try activating it on the new laptop.

1. Which version was it, such as Office Home & Student 2019, 2021, or 2024?
2. Did Office come preinstalled, or was it purchased separately?
3. Does it appear under https://account.microsoft.com/services in your Microsoft account?
