Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hi Ian Blackwood,
The error 0x800CCC0E typically indicates that Outlook is unable to connect to the mail server during IMAP folder synchronization. Since the account was working previously and is now failing when synchronizing subscribed folders, the issue is usually related to connectivity, authentication, account configuration, or Outlook profile corruption.
Please try the following steps:
- Verify webmail access
- Sign in to your email account using a web browser.
- If you cannot access your mailbox through webmail, the issue is likely with the email account or provider rather than Outlook.
- Review IMAP and SMTP settings
- In Classic Outlook, go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
- Select the affected email account and choose Change or Repair.
- Confirm that the incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) server names, port numbers, encryption settings (SSL/TLS), username, and password match those provided by your email provider.
- Check outgoing server authentication
- Open More Settings > Outgoing Server.
- Ensure My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is enabled if required by your provider.
- Test Outlook in Safe Mode
- Close Outlook.
- Press Windows + R, type:
outlook.exe /safe - If synchronization works in Safe Mode, an add-in may be causing the issue.
- Create a new Outlook profile
- If the settings are correct but the problem persists, create a new Outlook profile through Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles and re-add the account.
- Repair Outlook data files
- Run the Inbox Repair Tool (ScanPST) if you are using a PST-based mailbox.
