Google Authenticator not adding email account

Google Authenticator app will not allow me to add my Gmail account for account verification. What can I do to add my Gmail to the Authenticator app?

To add a Gmail account to Microsoft Authenticator, first turn on Google two-step verification, then add the account in the app.

1. On a computer, open the Google two-step verification page, select Get Started, and complete identity verification.
2. Follow the on-screen steps to enable two-step verification for the Gmail account.
3. Then open the Google account security page and go to Add more second steps to verify it's you.
4. Choose Set up from the Authenticator app.
5. On Get codes from Authenticator, select Android or iPhone, then select Next.
6. A QR code appears. Leave that page open.
7. Open Microsoft Authenticator, select Add account from the Customize and control menu in the upper-right, then select Other account (Google, Facebook, etc.).
8. Scan the QR code with the phone camera.
   • If the camera does not work, enter the QR code and URL manually.
9. In Authenticator, confirm the Gmail account appears and a verification code is shown.
10. Back on the computer, select Next, enter the verification code from Authenticator, and select Verify.
11. Select Done.

If this is the first time setting up Authenticator, allow camera access when prompted so the QR code can be scanned.

For non-Microsoft personal accounts like Gmail, the required setup is:

• Turn on two-step verification
• Add the account to Authenticator, usually by scanning a QR code
