I have a 5tb hard drive and half of it i can mess with like create a new volume and stuff but the other half i cant do anything with

Do you mind sharing a screenshot of your disk management so I can see the actual position of the unallocated space? The Disk Management tool has limitations; if it is not right next to the right of the drive from which you want to extend, or if there's other space in between, you will have a hard time using it. Let me review it first; if necessary, you will need a third-party tool.

In Disk Management:

Right-click the gray box on the left labeled Disk 1. Do not right-click the D: partition.

Select Properties.

Open the Volumes tab.

Look at Partition style.

It will say either:

Master Boot Record (MBR)

GUID Partition Table (GPT)

Tell me which one it says.

That's exactly what I suspected. The exact 2,048 GB boundary shown in your screenshot is the typical MBR size limitation. For MBR, it supports only about 2 TB of usable space. That is why Windows created a 2,048 GB partition and cannot use the remaining 2,609.53 GB.

You need to convert Disk 1 to GPT, which supports drives larger than 2 TB.

However, you have another issue here before converting. The D: partition shows as RAW. If the drive contains important files, do not format or delete anything yet because RAW means Windows cannot recognize the file system.

If there is nothing important on Disk 1

In Disk Management, right-click the D: partition.

Select Delete Volume.

Right-click the box on the left that says Disk 1.

Select Convert to GPT Disk.

Right-click the entire unallocated area.

Select New Simple Volume and format it as NTFS.

This will erase everything currently on Disk 1.

If the drive contains important files

Do not delete or format the RAW partition. First attempt to back up the files. Windows Disk Management normally requires all partitions to be deleted before it can convert an MBR data disk to GPT.
