    Do you see any error messages?

    Note that it isn't unusual for documents that have been restored from backups to be in Protected view when you open them in Word. In File Explorer, right-click the icon for a Word document and choose Properties; in the Properties window, click Unblock, and then click Apply. Does that let you open the doc for editing?
