I bought an older windows 7 game and I have a windows 7 computer (offline-no internet access) I'm trying to use with the game. My issue is after I've inserted all 4 discs and its 100% completed, it will ask if I want a desk top icon, whatever answer I insert, it will then ask me to insert disc 4 again. Disc 4 is already inserted but it won't go past that request. I have opened and closed the drives. I have used both internal and external disc drives. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I have cleaned the disc, and I have cleaned the drives. The disc looks new and doesn't have any scratches. I have also installed two other games onto the computer with no issues. I want to see if there is a work around before I see if I can purchase another disc 4. Thanks in advance.

The game is Knights of the Old Republic. One of the responses I got from another site suggested I transfer the files from the discs to a separate file on the computer. My photos are too large to include so I'll try to explain this in detail.

When I start loading the game, and I get to disk 4 it states, 'Setup Needs the next disk' 'Please insert disk 4 that contains the file data5.cab. After I answer whether I want a desk icon or not, it then states 'Setup needs the next disk' 'Please enter disk 4' which is different than the first request to insert disk 4. No matter what I do, it will not get past this request. I tried your suggestion to reinsert disk 1, but nothing happened. I would like to mention, when I was transferring the information from disk 4 to a separate file on my computer, it didn't want to transfer the files. I eventually had to do the files one at a time. When it came to data5, it took a while to get that one transferred. Since data5 had such a hard time transferring, does this mean the disk is bad and won't finish the process? Or could it be an installer issue? Or a window 7 issue?

The other suggestions I've had was to run this as administrator, which I did but got the same result. I'm already set up for Windows xp service pack 3. The next step I plan on taking is to try to update my InstallShield. I don't have this computer set up for the internet since its windows 7, so I'll need to use my laptop to transfer the file via USB.

Thanks for replying.

The 3 previous discs can be installed, which means Install Shield is working. In this case, I'd lean more towards the disc 4 issue then Windows 7 itself. Just want to check, you said the datacab5 has already copied to your computer. Can you please compare the size of it to the one in the drive? Do they match?

It's the same size as the actual disk. Just as an FYI, this morning (although it was already loaded onto the computer-I did not uninstall before I did this) I started reloading all of the disks, entering different disk files and when I went back to the play disk (I had to do this multiple times), I ran it as administrator again and it started working. I've already signed out, signed back in, ejected and reloaded and it's still working. So, thanks for your information and helping me with my inquiry. Have a great day.

Before we proceed further, may I have a photo of the situation to check for you? Please remember to remove all personal information before posting. Also, may I know the title of the game just to be sure?

In the meantime, back in the day something similar happens to me. While the installer asking for another disc, it only works when I reinsert disc 1 and retry. Can you please try that as well?

Ok. So, I just started pushing buttons and it started to work. So far so good. I've already signed out, signed back in, ejected and reloaded and it's still working.
