    Verify that "Portrait" is selected both in Word's Page Setup and in the printer properties (the exact location will depend on ther type of printer you have). There may be conflicting settings.

    Note that if you defined a custom paper format, Word defines any paper format whose width is wider than the height as landscape orientation.
