There is evidence of a current Outlook Copilot service issue in some cases.
A reported service incident states that some users may be unable to see the Microsoft 365 Copilot button or open Copilot in Outlook clients, and that restarting Outlook is required after the service fix is rolled out. Another reported incident mentions some users may be unable to see the Copilot Chat button or open Copilot Chat in Outlook clients.
If Copilot is missing only in Outlook, check these supported causes first:
- Confirm the Outlook surface supports the feature being used.
- Chat with Copilot in Outlook is only available with a work or school account in new Outlook for Windows or Outlook on the web.
- Copilot scenarios in Outlook are only available on the primary mailbox, not archive, group, shared, or delegate mailboxes, and not on mailboxes outside Exchange Online.
- Verify the correct signed-in account.
- The Microsoft 365 app must be signed in with an account that has a Copilot license.
- In any Microsoft 365 app, go to File > Account > Update License, then close and restart all Microsoft 365 apps.
- Check whether the Copilot entry points should be visible in Outlook.
- Summarize appears at the top of a message thread.
- Draft with Copilot and Coaching by Copilot appear from the Copilot button on the ribbon while drafting.
- Chat with Copilot is available from the Copilot icon in the navigation header for businesses with a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.
- If using new Outlook, check whether Copilot was turned off.
- Web: Settings > Copilot
- Windows (new Outlook): Settings > Copilot
- If the Turn on Copilot toggle is off, turn it back on.
If the issue started suddenly and affects Outlook access specifically, this aligns with the reported service issue more than a local configuration problem.
