Enter the system password

Surface UEFI stetting have been protected by a system password.

I had bought this surface pro off an auction site and need system password to continue. How do I get this password?

Contact the seller first. This is the fastest path — ask them directly for the UEFI password or to have it removed before you accept the item.

Many Surfaces sold at auctions come from businesses or schools that set a UEFI password before disposing of the device.

Contact Microsoft Support. They may be able to tell you whether the device is still managed or under warranty, but Microsoft generally cannot remove or recover a forgotten UEFI password for security reasons.

The Surface UEFI password cannot be reset, and Microsoft cannot retrieve it.

For a Surface bought from an auction site, the supported options are:

1. Check with the previous owner or the organization that managed the device to get the UEFI password.
2. If the device was managed by an IT department or another owner, contact them for the password.
3. If that is not possible, use Microsoft service and support options that may be available to assist:
   • Send the device to Microsoft for service
   • Use an in-person service center where available
   • Review self-repair options if technically experienced

If the device is part of an enterprise, UEFI settings may be locked to enterprise specifications.
