I entered incorrect tax ID while providing Startup verification details. How can I rectify that?

    Hello @SK

    If you've already submitted the startup verification with an incorrect Tax ID, I would avoid submitting another application or creating a second startup profile to work around it.

    Microsoft's current documentation allows certain startup profile information to be edited, but a Tax ID submitted as part of business verification may require the Microsoft for Startups support team to correct or reset the verification process. Microsoft specifically lists Business or domain verification under the issues handled by Microsoft for Startups Program Support.

    First, sign in to the Microsoft for Startups portal and check whether the information is still editable:

    Gear icon → My profile → Edit

    Microsoft documents this path for updating startup profile information such as the startup name, address, and email.

    If the Tax ID field isn't editable, or you've already submitted the verification, I recommend opening a Microsoft for Startups support ticket rather than attempting to reapply.

    You can do this from the Startups portal:

    Sign in → ? icon in the upper-right → Submit a Support Ticket

    Microsoft's current portal documentation confirms this as the supported process and allows you to attach relevant documents or screenshots.

    Microsoft for Startups Portal and support instructions: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/startups/microsoft-for-startups/mfs-portal?

    In the request, explain that you:

    • accidentally entered an incorrect Tax ID during startup verification;
    • need the Tax ID corrected before verification is completed, or need the verification reset so you can resubmit it;
    • can provide the correct business registration/tax documentation.

    Include your startup/company name and relevant application or subscription information so the support team can locate the application.

    Do not post your Tax ID, business registration numbers, or other sensitive verification information here on Microsoft Q&A. Provide those only through the private support request if Microsoft asks for them.

    There have also been similar Microsoft Q&A cases where an incorrect Tax ID caused verification to fail and the portal did not provide an option to restart the verification process. This is another reason I'd recommend having the Startups team review/reset the existing verification rather than creating another application.

    If the verification has already failed and there's no edit/retry option, mention this explicitly in the ticket:

    “I entered an incorrect Tax ID during Microsoft for Startups business verification. The portal does not allow me to edit or resubmit the verification. Please reset/reopen the business verification so I can provide the correct Tax ID.”

    Since this involves verification records associated with your account, only the Microsoft for Startups support team can make or authorize the necessary correction.
