Onedrive doesnot work.

Question

The Onedrive icon disappeared from the taskbar.

The Onedrive folder no longer connects to the Onedrive remote folder.

I tried to download the Onedrive app from Microsoft, to install it. It showed message that I must first uninstall the app.

I got to Settings app and tried to uninstall it, but it showed me an error that an uninstall application (.exe) cannot be found.

Is there any way to uninstall it and install it again, so that it works?

All that command does is fix any corrupt files in the Windows operating system that Windows uses to run. No data would be removed but if you are worried about your data being removed, please back-up your data onto an external disk before continuing.

Backing up your data is always a good move anyway, especially when trying to troubleshoot the computer and going through recovery options. Another option would be to use the recovery options in Windows to try and resolve this problem. You can reset Windows while keeping your files, but you do have the option to remove everything too. If you are going down the route of resetting Windows, using the recovery method, please back up your data before continuing.

Thanks for answering my questions. Looking a that may be happening, before you had to do the system restore, what programs were not running properly?

I am thinking, when looking at this, that this may be broken system files on the PC. Please can you right-click onto your start menu and click onto "Terminal Admin"

This will open the Windows Terminal on the PC. When this loads, please copy and paste the following command inside the terminal.

sfc /scannow

This will scan the Windows files and operating system. This process does take time to complete, but you can see the progress of this scan when it is processing.

After this scan has completed, please can you run the DISM command inside the Windows Terminal.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This will then begin to repair any broken/damaged system files, damaged registry entries, corrupted Windows components, and installer inconsistencies.

Once this has completed, please reboot your PC after. Once the PC has rebooted, please right click onto the Taskbar and open Task Manager. Please can you check that OneDrive is starting.

This looks as though the OneDrive sync client has signed out of your account. Please can you click onto the File Explorer icon on your Taskbar

Please can you tell me if the OneDrive folders show under the main folder at the top-left of the File Explorer.

If the OneDrive folder doesn't show there, it will suggest that the OneDrive account is not signed in. If this is the case, please can you click onto the OneDrive folder to open it within the File Explorer.

Once the folder is open, please can you click onto OneDrive in the address bar

You should see an option to connect to OneDrive. Please click onto this, and tell me if it does manage to sign back into your account and connect to OneDrive?

If this doesn't work, please can you answer the following questions:

• What version of Windows are you currently on (You can find this by pressing Start & R and typing winver )?
• When was the last time Windows was updated?
• Did this happen after a Windows update?

Yes. A broken OneDrive install can cause exactly this behavior: the taskbar icon disappears, reinstall says a newer version is already installed, and uninstall fails because the uninstall executable is missing.

Try these steps in order:

1. Check whether OneDrive is only not running
   • Select Start.
   • Type OneDrive.
   • Select OneDrive in the search results.
   • If it starts, the cloud icon should return to the notification area.
2. Reset OneDrive
   • Press Windows + R.
   • Type: wsreset.exe
   • Select OK.
   • Then press Windows + R again.
   • Type: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
   • If Windows cannot find it, try:
     • C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
     • C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
   • After that, restart OneDrive manually from Start by searching for OneDrive.
3. If reset does not fix it, uninstall OneDrive from Programs and Features
   • Press Windows + R.
   • Type: appwiz.cpl
   • Select OK.
   • Find Microsoft OneDrive.
   • Right-click it and select Uninstall.
4. Reinstall OneDrive
   • Download and install the latest OneDrive app.
5. If OneDrive still will not uninstall
   • Repairing Office can resolve some OneDrive sync issues without uninstalling and reinstalling.
   • If that does not help, use the Microsoft support options or create a support incident.

Important notes:

• Uninstalling OneDrive does not delete files already stored in OneDrive. Files remain available by signing in to the OneDrive account online.
• If none of the reset commands work, the OneDrive sync app may not be installed correctly.
• Avoid registry deletion unless specifically required, because it is a higher-risk step.
