    Hi, good day!

To help narrow down the cause

Could you let me know which specific Windows Update is failing?

Please provide the KB number and your current Windows version/build from Windows key + R to open run then type winver.

    Press Enter

Please take a screenshot of the resulting window and post it in your next response.

Have you already tried the troubleshooting steps suggested by the AI?

I look forward to your update and am willing to collaborate with you until we resolve the issue. Keep me posted by clicking "Add comments" below.

Error 0x80070002 during Windows Update usually means files required for the update are missing or corrupted, or a previous update left Windows in an inconsistent state.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Restart the PC Restarting can clear temporary conditions that block update installation.
    2. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. Under Get up and running, select Windows Update, then choose Run the troubleshooter.
    3. Check free disk space Make sure the device has enough space for the update:
      • 16 GB free for a 32-bit OS
      • 20 GB free for a 64-bit OS
    4. Review the CBS log if the error continues The CBS log can help identify the exact missing file or component. Check:
      • C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
      • rollover logs in the same folder such as CBSpersisttXXXXXXXXXXXXX.log or CBSpersisttXXXXXXXXXXXXX.cab
    5. Check for known missing-file scenarios Depending on what the CBS log shows, these are documented fixes:
      • If C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 is empty and the update is failing because of missing .NET optimization service entries, back up the registry and delete these keys, then try the update again:
        • HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\clr_optimization_v4.0.30319_32
        • HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\clr_optimization_v4.0.30319_64
      • If the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools is missing, copy the System Tools folder and its shortcuts from a working machine.
    6. If the update rolls back after restart Check Event Viewer and the CBS log for a driver-related failure. If the log identifies a missing driver registry entry, export the related driver service keys from a working computer and import them on the affected computer.

Important: If editing the registry, back it up first. Incorrect registry changes can cause serious system problems.
