home location is wrong

When I ask for something near me, the Dallas texas area places appear. I live in Alvin, texas which is 300 miles away.

Unless your computer has a GPS built-in, Windows doesn't know where you are. Instead it tries to guess, based on the information it can glean from your computer, which often has to do with nearby WiFi transmission towers.

You can provide Windows with a default location, which it will use with Microsoft apps (and perhaps Microsoft Store apps). But if you move from that location it's back to the guessing game.

Go to Start > Settings > Privacy and security > Location

Try these fixes in order:

1. In Bing search results, click Change next to the detected location.
   • Select Allow to let Bing use the browser’s current location, or enter Alvin, TX manually.
   • If entering it manually, click Remember this location to save it for future searches.
2. In Edge, clear stored site data for Bing and MSN.
   • Remove cached cookies/site data for bing and msn.
   • Then reload the page and allow location access again if prompted.
3. Check Edge location permission for Bing/MSN.
   • Remove bing.com and msn.com from the allowed list, refresh, and then allow location access again when prompted.
4. Reset Windows location settings.
   • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location.
   • Turn Location services off and back on.
   • Clear location history.
   • Set the default location and confirm it is your correct area.
5. If the wrong location still appears only on MSN/Edge pages, set the location manually on the MSN weather card and save it as the default.

If Bing itself is using the wrong detected location, manually setting and remembering Alvin, TX is the direct fix.
