    Try these steps in order:

    1. Reset the graphics driver:
      • Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B.
      • A beep or screen flicker indicates it worked.
    2. Try the security screen:
      • Press Ctrl + Alt + Del.
      • If that appears, open Task Manager.
    3. Restart Windows Explorer:
      • In Task Manager, find Windows Explorer.
      • Right-click it and select Restart.
      • If it is not listed, select File > Run new task, type explorer.exe, and press Enter.
    4. Check display output mode:
      • Press Windows + P, then press P again and Enter to cycle display modes.
      • This helps if Windows is sending the desktop to the wrong display.
    5. If the screen stays blank, boot into Safe Mode:
      • Hold the power button for 10 seconds to force shutdown.
      • Repeat this 2–3 times until Windows enters Recovery Mode.
      • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
      • Press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
    6. In Safe Mode, check the graphics driver:
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Expand Display adapters.
      • Right-click the GPU and choose Update driver.
      • If the issue started after a driver update, choose Roll back driver instead.
    7. If the problem started recently, use System Restore:
      • From Recovery Mode, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.
      • Choose a restore point from before the issue started.
    8. If the issue happens after sign-in and the desktop never loads:
      • Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
      • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
      • Check that the Shell value is set to explorer.exe.
      • Warning: Registry changes are risky. Back up the registry before changing anything.

    Hi! Let me help you.

Does it still happen even after a reboot?

Your apps are still running fine, so this is almost certainly just Windows Explorer (the process that draws your taskbar, desktop, and wallpaper) crashing in the background. To fix it, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, find "Windows Explorer" in the list, right-click it, and choose Restart — this usually brings everything back within a few seconds. If you don't see it listed, go to File > Run new task, type explorer.exe, and hit Enter to start it fresh. If your desktop disappears again after a bit, just restart your PC to clear things out. And if this keeps happening repeatedly, open Task Manager, go to File > Run new task, check "Create this task with administrative privileges," type cmd, and run sfc /scannow to repair any corrupted system files that might be causing it.
