Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Store login error

When logging into Microsoft Edge, first of all, the login fails and an error appears,

An error occurs even when logging into the Microsoft Store.

I am trying to connect my mobile phone to my PC, but I cannot log in.

I searched using the error code below and even tried deleting cookies and performing a recovery reset, but the same problem persists.

Can your company resolve this?

    Hi Graham Lucy,

I can understand how frustrating it is when sign-in problem is affecting Microsoft Edge and the Microsoft Store. That suggests the source may be with the Windows account authentication components rather than any application alone. Just wondering, have you checked whether the Microsoft account itself is working as the AI answer suggested?

If web sign-in also fails, the issue comes from the account itself rather than Edge or Store. If the account works in a browser, it'd be helpful if you can narrow it down more by testing in another local account: if the signing in works there, the problem is with your current profile, and vice versa. Besides that, please try the following:

    • Verify date, time, and region are correct:
      • Open Settings > Time & Language > Date & time
      • Toggle Set time & time zone automatically ON
      • If they're already on, turn OFF > restart PC
      • Come back and toggle them back ON.
    • Check whether the Windows account is properly connected:
      • Open Settings > Accounts > Your info
      • If you see any Verify/Fix/Add... link > click it
      • Complete the missing info > restart PC and check again.
    • If the issue still persists, open Control Panel > Credential Manager
      • In Windows Credentials, remove any entries related to:
        • MicrosoftAccount
        • login.live.com
        • login.microsoftonline.com
      • Restart the PC and try signing in to Edge/Store again.

If possible, consider sharing your Windows version and the exact error code you saw. Different sign-in failures require different troubleshooting paths, so without those details, we can only provide general sign-in troubleshooting as above.

Yes. Work through these checks in order, because the same sign-in stack can affect Microsoft Edge and Windows account-based sign-in behavior.

    1. Verify whether the account itself can sign in on the web.
    2. Clear cached sign-in data in Edge.
      • Open edge://settings/privacy
      • Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear
      • Select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files
      • Set Time range to All time
      • Select Clear now
      • Restart Edge and try signing in again
      • Note: this signs out of websites.
    3. Check for conflicting Edge profiles.
      • Open edge://settings/profiles
      • If multiple Microsoft account profiles exist, sign out of the problematic profile and sign in again
      • If that fails, remove the problematic profile, restart Edge, and create a new profile
      • Caution: removing a profile deletes local browsing data for that profile that is not synced, including favorites, history, and passwords.
    4. Clear stored Windows credentials.
      • Open Credential Manager in Control Panel
      • Under Windows Credentials and Generic Credentials, remove outdated entries related to MicrosoftAccount or login.microsoftonline.com
      • Restart Edge and try again
    5. Update Edge.
      • Open edge://settings/help
      • Let Edge check for and install updates
      • Restart Edge
    6. Check Windows account connection.
      • Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info and confirm the account is connected
      • For work or school accounts, also check Settings > Accounts > Access work or school
      • If needed, disconnect and reconnect the work or school account from Access work or school
    7. Reset the Windows Token Broker service.
      • Open Command Prompt as administrator
      • Run:
    net stop TokenBroker
    net start TokenBroker

    • Restart Edge and test sign-in again
    1. Check whether browser sign-in is blocked by policy.
      • Open edge://policy
      • Find BrowserSignin
      • If the value is 0, browser sign-in is disabled and the organization’s IT administrator must change the policy
      • Restart Edge after any policy change
    2. Check network access to Microsoft authentication endpoints.
      • Confirm access to:
        • https://login.live.com
      • If a proxy is used, check it in edge://settings/system
      • If possible, test from another network such as a mobile hotspot to determine whether the issue is network-specific
    3. If the device is managed by an organization and compliance errors appear:
    • Sign in to Windows with the work or school account
    • Connect to the organization network by VPN or DirectAccess
    • Press Windows+L, unlock with the work or school account, and test again

If the issue still persists, collect diagnostics before contacting support:

    • Edge version from edge://settings/help
    • Policies from edge://policy
    • Network trace from edge://net-export/
    • Identity status from edge://identity-internals/
    • Windows version from Settings > System > About
    • Whether the account is personal, work, or school
