    Try these checks in order:

    1. Make sure Microsoft Authenticator is unlocked. If the app is locked, the approval prompt or code entry box may not appear.
    2. Turn on Authenticator notifications. In the app, go to Settings > Notification Settings and make sure Show notifications is turned on. Also check the phone’s app notification settings.
    3. Update the app. Microsoft does not support Authenticator versions more than 12 months old. Install the latest version.
    4. Check network connectivity. Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, and make sure Airplane mode is off. If a VPN is enabled, disconnect it and test again.
    5. Check device time settings. Make sure the phone’s Date & time are correct.
    6. Turn off battery optimization for Authenticator. In the app, tap Settings and select Turn off battery optimization for better sync performance.
    7. If expecting a text or email verification code instead of an app prompt:
      • Check the correct mailbox.
      • Check the Junk folder.
      • Valid verification emails come from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
      • If the phone blocks texts from unknown numbers, change that setting and choose I don't have a code to request another one.
      • VOIP numbers cannot be used for sign-in verification codes; use a mobile number.
    8. Avoid repeated code requests. Too many repeated requests can trigger a temporary block. If that happened, try another verification method, switch networks, and wait up to 24 hours or longer if needed.
    9. If the message is “Authentication did not complete”, the most common fixes are:
      • unlock the app
      • enable notifications
      • update the app
      • switch networks
      • correct date/time settings
    10. If access is still blocked, use another sign-in method if one is available, or use the sign-in helper. Support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details.
