Static Web App DNS issues

I made a Static Web App for a project I'm working on. I have multiple others, none of which have the misfortune to be based in Azure DNS. This one did. I thought it would be an efficiency. I was.. so so SO very incorrect in that.

I attempted to add a custom domain to my new static web app in Azure. I have done this multiple times, but this time.. verification failed, attempt to delete it, cannot delete, attempted to delete the SWA, delete failed. Created a new SWA, same thing. Created a PAID SWA, same thing. removed DNS from Azure.. and used a domain that worked previously, failed, cannot delete custom domain, cannot delete SWA.

Then.. the real pain point of this.. tried to get MS to fix their stuff.. Copilot has been kind enough to pretty much not deliver anything but prompt issues. Twitter asks for a screenshot when you can't send in screenshots, that's great. Then they say come ask the community. So here we are

This one has been in deleting for 12 hours.User's image

Current stuck SWA count: 4

Current stuck custom domains: 5 to 2 different TLDs.

Amount of DNS in Azure: 0

However, for just $29 a month, I could submit a support ticket to get their processes, like deletion to work. Or I can ask here, and we can see what actually happens.

    Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

The symptoms point to a stuck Azure Static Web Apps control-plane operation, rather than an Azure DNS configuration problem. Since you have already removed the DNS zones and reproduced the issue with multiple SWAs/domains, changing DNS records is unlikely to resolve it. The portal showing “Deleting” for 12+ hours and failing both custom-domain deletion and SWA deletion suggests the resource state is inconsistent or a backend operation is stuck. At this point, collect the Activity Log entries for the failed custom-domain and SWA delete operations, including correlation/request IDs, and open an support request under Static Web Apps -> Custom domains/resource management. Mention that the issue reproduces across multiple SWAs and domains and persists with Azure DNS completely removed; this should be handled as a service-side control-plane failure rather than continued DNS troubleshooting.

Please 'Upvote'(Thumbs-up) and 'Accept' as answer if the reply was helpful. This will be benefitting other community members who face the same issue.
