Hi, My computer has been attempting to install the new built in Jul 26 several times...lenghty installation, which concludes systematically with an error. Then I have the daily reminder that my built has expired....

How can I get away from this incessant cycle please?

If the build has expired and Windows keeps retrying the update, the supported path is to get onto a newer build or reset the installation state.

    1. Restart the device, then try Windows Update again.
      • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Windows Update and select Check for Updates.
      • If the device is on an expiring build, updating to the latest available build is the first step.
    2. If the same install keeps failing after restart, restart again.
      • A pending cleanup or previous installation can require another restart before setup can continue.
    3. If repeated restarts do not help, run Disk Cleanup.
      • Error 0xC1900107 means a cleanup operation from a previous installation attempt is still pending, and a restart is required.
      • If restarting does not resolve it, use Disk Cleanup to clean up temporary files and System files.
    4. Remove common upgrade blockers before trying again.
      • Unplug nonessential external hardware such as printers, scanners, USB drives, and external disks.
      • If present, uninstall third-party antivirus or antispyware software before retrying the upgrade.
      • Make sure important Windows updates are installed.
    5. If the device still shows no usable update while the build is expiring, a clean install may be required.
      • Microsoft states that if no updates are available on an expiring Insider build, settings may need adjustment or a clean installation of Windows may be needed.
      • A clean install resets the device, so back up files first.
    6. Do not try to fix this by editing the registry.
      • Microsoft explicitly warns against manually deleting or changing registry keys or values to bypass restart or setup issues.

If the update continues to fail after these steps, contact Microsoft support.
